For criminal defense counsel
Mitigation films developed with criminal defense counsel
Short documentary films for sentencing, plea discussions, clemency, parole, and post conviction matters.
We work alongside counsel and the investigator to identify the people and experiences that matter, then build a restrained, credible film around the strategy of the case.

Craft still, not a case film. Stock craft only. Client films stay private.
Craft atmosphere

A humanizing craft strip so people read as people, not only as defendants.

Why film
A written submission explains the case. Film can reveal the person within it.
Written advocacy remains central. A mitigation film can add the voices, relationships, history, and lived experience that are difficult to capture on the page.
Developed with counsel, the film gives decision makers a fuller understanding of the person and the circumstances that shaped them.
Process
A collaborative process from strategy to final delivery
We work alongside counsel and the investigator throughout the process, from identifying the right voices to shaping and reviewing the final film.
- 01
Plan
We begin with counsel and the investigator to understand the case, the mitigation strategy, and the purpose of the film. Together, we identify the family members, friends, and other voices most likely to provide meaningful context.
- 02
Interviews
We conduct thoughtful, documentary style interviews with the people agreed upon with counsel. Our job is to listen carefully, ask the right questions, and uncover the experiences and relationships that help explain the person behind the case.
- 03
Edit with counsel
We shape the interviews and supporting material into a focused narrative. Counsel reviews the film as it develops and provides direction before the final cut is approved.
- 04
Private delivery
The approved film is delivered securely to counsel for use as counsel determines appropriate.
When a film may fit
Where mitigation film may have a role
Every case is different. We work with counsel to determine whether a film fits the strategy, forum, and circumstances of the case. A mitigation film is designed to complement legal advocacy, not replace it.

Visual storytelling can add personal history, relationships, circumstances, and other human context alongside the written sentencing submission.
Plea discussions
Where counsel believes additional human context may be useful in helping prosecutors understand the person behind the case.
Clemency
A film can help present the individual, their history, relationships, rehabilitation, and circumstances alongside a clemency petition.
Parole and post conviction
Where personal history, rehabilitation, family support, and the individual's trajectory may be relevant to the proceeding.
Resentencing
A way to present updated context, rehabilitation, personal development, and the circumstances that have changed since the original sentence.
Why Atomic Fox Mitigation
Built in collaboration with counsel
We work with counsel nationwide, subject to each case. Logistics and local practice still vary.
Collaborative from the start
We work with counsel and, where appropriate, the investigator to identify the people, experiences, and details that can add meaningful context to the case.
Documentary experience
We bring professional interviewing, storytelling, production, and editing experience to uncover and present the human story with clarity and restraint.
Developed with counsel
Counsel reviews the film as it develops, provides direction, and helps ensure the finished piece remains aligned with the strategy of the case.
Selective and confidential
Not every case needs a film. We assess each project with counsel, work discreetly, and focus on whether visual storytelling can genuinely contribute to the mitigation effort.
Discretion
The work stays private for a reason
Client stories are sensitive. We do not publish case films as marketing. Counsel may request private sample access to evaluate craft. Consultations are complimentary.
